Langston Hughes: Historical Perspective Essay

The two sonnets that I decided to expound on are â€Å"The Negro Mother† and â€Å"Mother to Son† by Langston Hughes. Both of these sonnets are about a mother addressing her youngsters and talking about the tough situations that she has experienced previously. On the off chance that we read these sonnets it’s particularly educating us concerning history and the things that individuals of color needed to suffer back in the days. Numerous individuals can see it as her addressing her kids or to her child legitimately however I consider it to be her addressing the dark offspring of society. The Negro Mother is where a mother is addressing her kids about her battles and helping them to remember her precursors and their days as a slave â€Å"I am the person who toiled as a slave, beaten and abused for the work that I gave† (Hughes, 2012, Line 11). Toward the start of the sonnet she starts to recount the appalling things and how terrible things were nevertheless at that point begins to reveal to her youngsters a sort of expectation and letting them know â€Å"Stand like free men supporting my trust. Have confidence justified, let none push you back. † (Hughes, 2012, Line 36). In the sonnet Mother to Son, we have the comparative topic where the mother discusses her battles throughout everyday life. She depicts her life as steps and says that her â€Å"life for me ain’t been no gem step. † (Hughes, 2012, Line 2) Just like on the main sonnet she keeps on empowering her child and letting him know never to surrender. â€Å"don’t you fall now-for I’se still goin’ nectar. I’se still climbin’† (Hughes, 2012, Line 17). What I thought she implied here is don’t surrender in light of the fact that after all that I have experienced, I am as yet going. <p
